Rev. Canon Burke Congratulates St. George's2009-04-11
 |
Thank you for your kind invitation to join in your up-coming celebrations, at St. George’s Basseterre. St. George’s remains one of my most pleasant memories. Apart from the impressive physical features, it is the first Church in which I served officially as a Cleric. It is the Church in which I was first married. It is the Church in which I was elevated to the Sacred Priesthood, and served for three years, getting to know and love so many wonderful folk.

Incidentally enough, it was to St. George, Roseau, Dominica, that I was sent as a Theological student, to spend two long vacations, and it was St. George, Barbados from which I retired, after a very happy twenty-one years of ministry. St. George, Basseterre takes a high place in all these reflections, and , of course, St. Kitts became my second home for many years, and I still have many family members there.
I burdened you with that account, so as to emphasize how much I should look forward to visiting St. Kitts; but many circumstances have converged, at this time, as to render it impracticable for me to take advantage of this opportunity to do so. I feel nevertheless, that it would be helpful, for you to know in reasonably good time, whether I shall be there or not.
At the moment it seems for me, disappointingly unlikely.
I should be very grateful however, if you would accept and convey to the other faithful of St. George, my kind greetings, congratulations on your special observance.
Warmest wishes and God’s Blessings on your Ministry and Mission there at St. George.
Kind regards to the family, and every good wish.
Yours sincerely,
Rev. Canon Lionel Burke
