Provincial Synod to be Hosted in Antigua2007-10-21 FROM THE 'ANTIGUA SUN:'
"...the Church in the Province of the West Indies will gather in November to meet with the bishops of the province along with clergy and lay representatives from the eight dioceses – The Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, Belize, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Guyana and the North Eastern Caribbean and Aruba. Bishop of North Eastern Caribbean & Aruba the Rt Reverend Leroy Errol Brooks anticipates a productive and progressive conference.
The Synod is the chief legislative body of the province. Besides regulating the doctrine and dealing with the “business” of the Anglican Church in the Caribbean, issues of concern, such as the ministry of the church and its mission, social justice and youth affairs are discussed at these meetings.
After each Provincial Synod meeting, a committee is appointed to ensure that the standing commissions are kept. These include doctrine, theological, youth, social justice, mission, liturgy and church music, canon regulation, renewal ministry and ecumenism.
Already on the agenda for this Synod are crime and violence; developing the youth in the countries in a Christian manner that will produce wholesome citizens; and the HIV/AIDS pandemic that’s plaguing the region.
The province will also take a look at more ways that the church can get actively involved in their respective communities."
