The purpose of the Mothers’ Union is to be specially concerned with all that strengthens and preserves marriage and Christian Family Life.

The aim of the society is the advancement of the Christian religion in the sphere of marriage and family life. In order to carry out its Objectives.

The Mother’s Union, started in St. Kitts at St. Peters church in the late 1940 by the wife of an English Priest. The organization went into along period of dormancy after the Priest and his wife returned to England.

In 1956 Mrs. Jane Eversley (now Canning) was appointed by the headquarters in England as the Mother’s Union worker for the Diocese of Antigua.

On August 9th that year Mrs. Eversley visited St. Kitts and started branches in all the Parishes. St. Peters was then revived . The Mothers Union worker explained that Mary Sumner, a young wife of another English priest became concerned about ‘Broken Families’. She then started the organization in 1876 focusing on “Stable Christian Homes” The Five (5) objectives of the organization were outlined, one of which been “To Help Families whose lives have met with adversity.” This small meeting in Mary Sumner’s living room have spread to 71 countries and is now the largest women organization throughout world with a membership of over 3 million.
