  Holy Orders

The term "holy orders" is a way of referring to ordination: an ordained person such as a priest or deacon is spoken of as "being in holy orders," meaning that the person has made priestly vows, received the laying-on of hands, and has been admitted (by a bishop) into one of the levels of ordination.

  Holy Thursday

In English usage, this has always meant the Feast of the Ascension (the fortieth day after Easter Day). (In continental or Roman usage, "Holy Thursday" means the
Thursday in Holy Week, or Maundy Thursday.)

  Hood

An ornamental (not practical) hood, usually of silk, worn by college graduates to indicate their academic degree. Hoods vary in size, shape, and colour depending on the university, faculty, and degree. The hood, worn over the cassock and surplice, is part of the normal choir vestment.
