PROGRAMMES

As is customary the first meeting of each new quarter is used to brainstorm some activities that the membership would like to participate in for meetings. These proposed activities were based upon the foundation of the Association that is the four principles namely work, worship, fellowship and edification. The executive and Parish Priest then met and the proposed programmes were agreed upon by both parties and then submitted to the Island Council.

The programme included edification by a guest speaker, Mr Creighton Pencheon who spoke on the topic: “200 years after the abolition of the Slave Trade, are we still enslaved?” This presentation provided much food for thought on the reasons why we do what we do and why people say we are still enslaved. Mr. Pencheon and the P.R.O. engaged in a short discourse near the end of the session where both men discussed their own personal views on the matter.

The main business for the meeting of the 12th February was valentine card making and chocolate exchange for the seniors. Our Vice-President Ms. Eleanor Joseph ran the session. Many materials were provided such as coloured Manila paper, crinkle cutting scissors, colouring pencils, markers and instructions. All of the senior members’ names were then put in a bag and shaken and each member picked out the name of the person to whom they would give a chocolate.

We also had regular “Worship Prep” sessions where we cleaned the church and practiced a song to sing on Youth Sunday. On the 26th of March the main business for both the junior and senior meetings was the making of palm crosses in preparation for Palm Sunday. Mrs. Eleanor Phillip outlined the technique used to create a cross and taught members how to do it themselves. Members slowly but surely mastered the cross making technique and we spent at least one hour making palm crosses. All the members thoroughly enjoyed the session and were no doubt looking forward to it next year.
